Past Presidents

Renee Guariglia  2012- 2014

Renee’s tenure with NYSAHU began in 2005 as one of the original members of the Greater Central NY Chapter of the organization.  Renee served on both the GCNY and State Boards of Directors before becoming President in 2012.

Renee’s Presidency was notable for NYSAHU’s introduction of certification courses that allowed agents and brokers to participate in the New York State of Health Marketplace (more than 700 agents and brokers took NYSAHU’s certification course) and the close working relationship that NYSAHU created with the executive staff of the NY State of Health Marketplace.

Renee established NYSAHU’s Hotel Toiletry Program, where agents and brokers across NYS donate unused hotel toiletries for the benefit of Vera House, an organization that provides support and shelter for those affected by domestic or sexual violence.

In addition to her duties as Executive Vice President of Falcone Associates, Inc, Renee She also serves on the Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers of NY Healthcare Reform Task Force. Renee is well published in local and national publications regarding health insurance in the State of New York as well as what has been occurring in our marketplace. Renee previously sat on the advisory board of the Capital District Physicians’ Health Plan, Inc. (CDPHP) and on the advisory board of MVP Health Plan.

Renee is also a soccer, lacrosse and baseball mom; her daughter Sarah is 11 and plays soccer and lacrosse; her son John IV is 6, just graduated kindergarten and plays baseball.

Andrew F. Biernat 2010-2012

Andy’s commitment to NAHU started many years ago and included being one of the founding members to establish both the Greater Central New York Chapter in 2005 and the Western New York Chapter. With much of our legislative work centered in Albany and New York City, NYSAHU was able to expand our annual Day on the Hill from a one day event to a two day symposium while tripling our attendance and legislative appointments as a result. Our ongoing legislative commitment to our members continued with the creation of the Daniel E. Colacino Legislative Excellence Award to honor member’s legislative efforts throughout NYS. In addition under Andy’s leadership, NYSAHU achieved Gold Certification in February 2012 which recognizes excelling chapters on a rolling basis throughout the calendar year. With the merger of the Empire State Healthcare Coalition and NYSAHU, we now have “strength in numbers” and are seen as an important association with the will power to make things happen! His dedication to our members allowed for the appointment of NYSAHU legislative committee members to the NYS Health Insurance Exchange Planning Committee, allowing the voices of all our members across the state to be heard. Andy serves as Vice President Strategic Benefit Advisor for Gilroy Kernan & Gilroy in New Hartford.
